VB-Clean can reliably detect, and correct, up to 20% image skew. VB-Clean uses text or lines as a guide, so De-Skew requires no "training" or registration marks. A character protection feature can eliminate any rotational distortion induced in the straightening process.
Registration lets you specify how far from the edge of an image you want the image data placed. VB-Clean can automatically register an image in both the horizontal and vertical planes. The process is accurate and consistent to within 3 or 4 pixels. On a 300 dpi image, VB-Clean can position your data within 1/100th of an inch. The registration feature requires no "training" or registration marks and can reliably register to either text or lines.
In order to simulate shades of gray, most black and white printers use dithering, also know as dot shading, to give the impression of gray shading. Some black and white scanners also use this technique when they scan color or gray-scale images. VB-Clean can automatically detect and remove dot shaded regions from your image, leaving any text inside the dot shaded regions intact. This feature lets you remove shading on tables or gray borders from your images as well as dot hatch patterns. Most older drawings and prints often have little specks or even dark speckled areas. Removing this noise can make the output look much better than the original, reduce file size and allow you to view your files faster.
VB-Clean can automatically detect and remove horizontal and vertical lines from your image. Our SuperLine technology can handle severely degraded lines, letting you enhance even badly damaged images.
Often lines pick up little ticks and chips with pixels missing and fuzz. This option trims off the extraneous pixels and fills in the missing ones making for a cleaner looking drawing. This is a very important feature if you will do any raster to vector conversion or Optical Character Recognition since erroneous or missing pixels can confuse the conversion engine.
This option allows you to grow and erode characters in an image, or perform "sand and fill" operations to smooth characters. Older dot matrix printers often produced results that were unreadable by an OCR engine. These features can make dot matrix print readable. It can reliably tell the difference between small lines and large text and a character reconstruction feature can rebuild characters intersected by lines that are being removed. It can find inverse, or white on black, text. There are very few OCR engines able to handle inverse type. VB-Clean can find and correct inverse type anywhere in your image, making it readable by any OCR engine. This facility is not limited by shape or location in your image.
This purchased option lets you automatically bleach out black or shaded borders, and crop the image down to the edge of your data. As a standard feature, you can select an area of your image to extract during image enhancement. This lets you effectively crop out everything except the image data you want.
VB-Clean can rotate an image in 900 increments. This feature can also reverse the colors of an image from black on white, to white on black. VB-Clean can analyze an image and automatically determine whether the image is landscape, portrait, or upside down, and then place it in the correct orientation. This feature can save lots of operator hours when run in batch mode rather than at the scanner.
