  1. The process involves the scanning of your paper and/or film documents into electronic media that can then be indexed, and accessed by a number of departments for viewing / marking up and printing. 
  2. A study should be done to determine if it is better to purchase the equipment and do the work in-house or to sub it out to an outside service bureau.

Some of the questions you need to ask are.

  1. Do you have the labor and time required? 
  2. Will you be working in black and white or color?
  3. Will you have enough documents now or in the future to justify purchase?
  4. How many locations will need to have access to the documents?
  5. Are the originals in good condition or faded, dirty or delicate?
  6. Will you need to edit the documents?
  7. Will you need to convert some or all of the documents to CAD?

SOFTWARE PRODUCTS:

  1. Archiving software the first software you will need.  A good product will reduce your scanning costs and make indexing easy.  From simple indexing to complete archiving we have it.

  2. Raster Editing software is the next step. As you quality check each drawing you will want to be able to insure that everything is readable and correct in raster format. A good raster editor actually works selectively,  in vectors on those element that need changing, seamlessly making the changes and saving them  back to raster.

  3. Post Processing software you really have a choice you can rotate, align and  despeckle  every drawing as you scan or do it all in a batch at night without user intervention. If you have thousands of drawings this program can save you lots of man hours.

  4. Adaptive Thresholding software. If you have really bad mottled, faded or just plain dirty drawings the adaptive thresholding that is built into the newer scanners may not be able to really clean them up so consider this product goes a lot further giving you extra flexibility to match the seriousness of you drawing problem. If you have an older scanner without adaptive thresholding rush to order one.

  5. Raster to Vector conversion. Need to convert all or part of a drawing then you want the most accurate conversion you can get short of copying the drawing over by hand. This product lets you convert or trace over. Snaps to centerlines or outlines, even does color!

  6. Viewing software every workstation will need a viewer to view, redline and plot your images and drawings.  Both full plot and active viewport.  Our viewer does even more. you can batch plot from dwg, dxf or plt files. Rotate your images in 3 D and it's fast and inexpensive.
